International Accreditations

IACBE

The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) was founded in 1997 in response to the expressed needs of presidents, chief executive officers, chief academic officers, and business deans and chairs who wanted an accreditation process that was not driven by prescriptive standards relating to inputs and resources, but was mission-driven and outcomes-based. At that time, the majority of the four-year colleges and universities in the United States that offered degrees in business were not recognized, and could not become recognized, by the existing business accrediting bodies. Similarly, hundreds of institutions of higher education located outside of the United States were unable to obtain specialized accreditation for their business programs.

Since that time, the IACBE has grown into a leading professional accreditation body for colleges and universities whose primary purpose is excellence in teaching and learning, with well over 200 members and 800 accredited programs in the United States and throughout the world.

In January 2011, the IACBE achieved a significant milestone when the Board of Directors of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) granted recognition to the IACBE.

ECBE's mission is to encourage and support continuous improvement in the quality of Business Education. This is directed towards all learners in the global market place: academic institutions, faculties and departments, employers and employees.

To translate "Excellence in Business Education" into reality for learners, ECBE commits to supporting member institutions in preparing students to operate effectively in an ever-increasing competitive market; encouraging and sustaining excellence; striving for innovation in teaching and learning outcomes; meeting the challenges of Bologna and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA); developing linkages between Business Education providers and Industry and Commerce; and forming strategic alliances with organisations worldwide with similar objectives.

This alliance was first founded in 1999 as the non-profit association ASII for the accreditation of degree programmes in engineering an informatics, which rapidly expanded to ASIIN in 2002 by including the fields of natural sciences and mathematics.

Since 2000, ASII or ASIIN has the right to award the accreditation seal of the German Accreditation Council, in addition to the ASIIN quality seal.

In 2008, there were further expansions of the activities of ASIIN e. V. such as the establishment of panels, criteria, and procedures for the evaluation of QM systems in studying and teaching and the related admission by the German Accreditation Council.

To this end, ASIIN Consult GmbH took up work as a 100% subsidiary of ASIIN e. V. for consulting services in the educational sector in early 2008.

In addition to its activities in Germany, ASIIN e. V. has already participated in national and European projects on the quality of university education at a very early stage and has been involved in the coordination processes of European and international organisations as a member. These activities are presented in the section ASIIN international.
